Tournament Rules

*** USGA RULES GOVERN ALL NHWGA TOURNAMENTS ***

All members agree to abide by the USGA Rules of Golf, the rules set forth by the tournament committees, and by the NHWGA.  All members further agree to conduct themselves in a proper manner at all times.  Rudeness and disrespect, as well as any unsportsmanlike conduct, e.g., profanity and club throwing, will not be tolerated.  These offenses will be dealt with by the Ethics Committee of the Board of Directors, and could result in revocation of playing privileges in NHWGA events.

Local Embedded Ball Rule

The following local embedded ball rule is to be in effect at all NHWGA events:
Anywhere “through the green,” a ball which is embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground may be lifted without penalty, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole.

Preferred Lies

If a host club allows preferred lies, the distance to be used is 1 club length.  This does not apply to championships.

Points to Remember

State Day participants are reminded that when clubs host one of our tournaments, it may inconvenience their members, as well as cost them additional money to staff the club facilities to accommodate us.  We encourage players to be mindful of the services provided for us and we ask that you:

  • Consider having lunch at the host club.
  • Support the pro shop.
  • Follow the host club’s instructions for driving carts, especially near greens or tees.
  • Respect the host club’s policies though they may differ from your own.
  • Be gracious and express appreciation when appropriate.  The continued opportunity to play competitive golf courses may depend upon our recognizing our responsibilities to our host clubs.
