Handicap Information

Fair Handicapping depends upon full, accurate information regarding a player's potential scoring ability as reflected by a complete scoring record.  Every player must be responsible for posting all acceptable scores.  For handicapping purposes all adjustments including Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) must be applied to all scores including tournament scores.  ESC is used when a player's actual or most likely score exceeds a maximum number, based on the table below:

Adjusted gross scores from all courses with a USGA Course Rating and Slope Rating made during an active season, both at home and away, must be posted by the player.  Please be reminded that if 13 or more holes are played, the player must post an 18-hole score.  If 7 to 12 holes are played, the player must post a 9-hole score.  In either case, scores for holes not played must be recorded as par plus any handicap strokes that the player is entitled to receive on the holes not played.

Tuesday Tournaments begin in June.  All Tuesday Tournaments must be posted with a "T" and should be posted following the round at the course where you played.  If you are unable to post that day, your score should be posted within 3 days of playing your round.  A committee of volunteers will be reviewing all Tuesday Scores for posting and accuracy.  A player may incur a penalty if their score is not posted or an inaccurate score is posted.  Likewise, all specialty tournaments should be posted following the above guidelines and using a "T" for tournament.

In 2008, the NHWGA joined IGN (International Golf Network).  This network was developed to facilitate the transfer of posted scores between associations which use different handicap vendors.  For example, if your winter club uses IGN during the NHWGA inactive season, with IGN, players can post scores outside of their state association and have their scores routed back to their home association.  If you are not already linked with your off-season club using IGN, please contact your Handicap Chairperson at your club and get your GHIN number and IGN number linked.
